The Revet Foundation

We're a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization shining a critical light on the trustworthiness of news sources.

About

From fostering the proliferation of fake news, to designing experiences that negatively impact the health and safety of our nation's youth, the platforms where consumers get their news can not be trusted to serve the best interests of society or democracy.

That's why we formed The Revet Foundation, a new nonpartisan, nonprofit organization with a mission to educate U.S. consumers on the trustworthiness of the web's news sources.

With secret algorithms serving up content on Big Tech's terms, we believe it's critical to provide the public with facts about the the publications, people, and practices behind the content they read online.

Leadership

Matt Grisafi, Founder & CEO

The Revet Foundation was inspired by Matt's two decades as a media industry leader and journalist. More specifically, by his frustration with how big tech’s policies, tactics, conflicts of interest, and vacuum of journalism leadership are failing the public, our news ecosystem, and democracy.

From leading publisher standards and news index quality at Microsoft, to advertising products at Mediavine, and publishing at Digital First Media, Grist, and YES!, he's gained a unique, 360-degree understanding of our broken news ecosystem.

Tammy Kennon, Board Member

A founding editor of The Washington Post digital desk, Tammy has leveraged her extensive knowledge of news industry standards and practices to develop trustworthy experiences at Microsoft, where she was responsible for news source authority and advised Bing leadership on news trends and practices. A highly-sought freelance writer, her work has appeared in The New York Times, The Week, and USA Today.

Jody Brannon, Board Member

With three decades of digital news experience, including 10 years as a board director for the Online News Association and stints at Microsoft, The Washington Post, Atlantic Media and USA Today, Jody brings a deep understanding of the industry landscape. A Ph.D. in mass communication, she's taught at American University, Arizona State's Cronkite School of Journalism, and currently leads Washington State University's Murrow News Fellowship program.
